Heads Up, Folks!
I want to share an update regarding the material composition of Smart Doll Guys.
As many of you know, our Classic and Pear-shaped Smart Doll Girls are mostly made from hard-grade sofubi, with the exception of the bust and hands. We’re now taking a similar approach with Smart Doll Guys. The next batch of Milk Guys will transition from full soft bodies to a predominantly hard-grade construction—just like the girls. The upper arms, however, will remain soft-grade to prevent them from popping out (rocket punches) when raised.
This change follows adjustments we made to how we cut the vinyl, which now allows hard-grade sofubi to work well with the male body type. We feel this better aligns the experience across the Smart Doll lineup while also improving usability. For example, the grippy texture of soft-grade vinyl made it tricky to dress the guys in jeans. With the new hard-grade material, dressing is easier and standing stability is noticeably improved.
For now, this update applies only to the Milk skin tone. The other tones will continue using full soft bodies while supplies last. That said, we do plan to gradually phase out the guy soft bodies in favor of hard-grade going forward.
As shown in the photo, even with the switch to hard-grade, the range of motion is still pretty solid thanks to the Evolve frame. Just a heads-up—softer vinyl can stiffen in colder climates, which may limit articulation.
TL;DR – The next release of Milk-tone Smart Doll Guys will feature a predominantly hard-grade sofubi body, with the upper arms, bust, and hands remaining soft-grade.
If you prefer the full soft-grade version, now may be the time to pick one up while supplies last.
